Interiors

I've been busy painting for my show next summer in Port Townsend. For this show I am moving indoors and creating a series of interior spaces.  Working in acrylic on wood panel from scenes of my parent's old home and friends homes, it has been fun and challenging.

Here are a couple of works that are finished or nearly completed.

My Ballard Neighborhood

These paintings are on wood panel, 6"x6".

Mixed Media Botanicals

I am excited that I just sold one of my botanicals to a health care center in Pendleton, Oregon!  I love it when I sell my paintings to hospitals where they have the opportunity to touch someone who may be in need of some healing beauty.  There are over twenty of my paintings at Swedish Hospital in Ballard in the new emergency wing and I have heard from a few of my friends who had to make a trip there that they felt comforted by seeing my work there.

I plan to put my botanicals on a new website, but in the mean time I'll show some of what I have available here.  These range in size from 24"x24" to 36"x72".

New Landscapes on Canvas

I love walking around neighborhoods in the late afternoon.  The sunlight is strong and house pets come out to sun on porches.  I created a couple of larger works on canvas showcasing these happenings.

Neighborhood

I love walking around neighborhoods in the late afternoon.  The light and shadows create interesting shapes on structures and house pets come out to enjoy the warmth of the sun.  I created a few large paintings on canvas to showcase these events.

Road to the Farm

Here is one of my latest works on paper.
It was a beautiful day in LaConner when I set out with my camera and watercolors.
This is a studio work in acrylic that I made upon return.

New works on Paper and Panel

Since I have been back from Catalina Island I've been working on trying to develope a more unique and interesting color palette.  I'm stepping out of the neutrals and seeking to become more true and pure and more bold.  Here are a few of my new urbanscapes.

Santa Catalina watercolor sketches

My latest painting trip was to Santa Catalina off the coast of LA at the end of January.  I was looking forward to escaping the cold, dreary winter days in Seattle to catch the sun and shadows in Southern California.

Although the days for the most part were cool and wet I managed to fill up my Moleskin Sketchbook.  Snatching dry periods, hiding under cover and working indoors when it was totally impractical to do watercolor in the rain, I quickly sketched in my surroundings with ink and painted with watercolor on the spot or later in the day.  The sun did appear the last couple days and it was glorious!  I couldn't believe how deep blue the sky was. It was an inspiring place with the sea, palm trees and red tiled roofs.

Domes of San Miguel

Little Landscapes

These are 6"x6" landscapes on wood panel.
I love painting these small vignettes of scenes of around the Northwest.  I have been underpainting them with my new formula that I learned about from Jennifer Phillips - Sap Green, Indian Yellow and Alizarin Crimson.  It really make the painting glow, especially as I leave areas of it peeking through!
