Santa Catalina watercolor sketches

My latest painting trip was to Santa Catalina off the coast of LA at the end of January.  I was looking forward to escaping the cold, dreary winter days in Seattle to catch the sun and shadows in Southern California.

Although the days for the most part were cool and wet I managed to fill up my Moleskin Sketchbook.  Snatching dry periods, hiding under cover and working indoors when it was totally impractical to do watercolor in the rain, I quickly sketched in my surroundings with ink and painted with watercolor on the spot or later in the day.  The sun did appear the last couple days and it was glorious!  I couldn't believe how deep blue the sky was. It was an inspiring place with the sea, palm trees and red tiled roofs.
